Revolution Mod

About

The period from about 1930 through to 1950 is sometimes referred to as the “sensor revolution” in Naval warfare. Sonar and Radar became essential elements to any fleet.

This is the home page for the CC2 “Revolution” mod. It is a mod in development that aims to extend and enhance gameplay, giving more options for scouting, stealth and strategy without going too far from the core ideals of CC2.

Revolution (version 1.5-7) gives you (in addition to the UI Enhancer experience):

For detailed info about the main features, see Revolution Features Index.

For information about the next version see Revolution Evolution

It is based on the UI Enhancer and Albatross AWACS mods by QuantX and Thumblegudget. I intend to update the mod if/when new versions of these two mods come out as required or if the core game is updated.

The mod sources are hosted on github at https://github.com/cc2modteam/revolution-mod where you can log bugs or request additions.

Fog of War

Islands that you do not own and that you have not visited show as grey on the maps. You wont know which team controls which island until you get within range of it’s command centre to pick up it’s short range transmissions. You will not get free intel when another team takes over an AI island unless you are close enough to see it happening.

I hope this will bring an extra dimension into PvP games, teams won’t give away their location simply by capturing an AI island far away.

Manta Re-Balance

In PvP games we found that once players reach a certain skill level, then the “full loadout” and “standard loadout” games simply become “rush to get 4 mantas”. In an effort to make these games longer and less decided by map randomness we’ve slightly nerfed the manta by changing what weapons it can use. This might _seem_ less fun when you read it here but we’ve found it changes how you think of the manta into more of an A2A asset rather than a bomb truck, since doing this we’ve had more of those epic dogfights that we love.

Enhanced Radars

See also Revolution Mod Radar Sim

Needlefish are fairly large units, they are complex automated warships able to navigate the entire map alone without running aground so I reasoned that they should also have some kind of limited Radar.

Revolution adds medium range air search Radar capability to the CIWS Needlefish and sea search Radar to the Cruise Missile and Torpedo Needlefish. A combined small task group of Needlefish can now support each other in long range offensive operations without the previous need for airborne support.

This was initially released as part of the Fisheye mod. But will now be part of Revolution instead.

Holomap Enhancements

The captain can now use the holomap to place information markers on the world map. Useful for planning and also marking objectives to the crew, these markers are visible by all operator stations.

The captain’s holomap now also offers quick access to jump to friendly aircraft. If one of your pilots urgently needs a vector to home or to a target, it is now quick to find them.

Map Markers (Experimental)

The holomap can now place up to 4 markers on the holomap, these can be viewed by any other holomap or operator screen map on the same team.

This is an experimental feature and may not work well in large multi-player games.

Quick Select

The holomap now has an expandable menu that can be used to select and zoom to friendly aircraft. Useful if your captain is acting as GCI to select the aircraft of a player needing guidance.

When you select units on the holomap, you now have more options, one of these is the camera option.

The holomap can now assist close quarters petrel operations too. Order a petrel to pickup the nearest unit or drop at the current position.

Advanced Radar Sim

  • AWACS now has increased range if you fly above 1600m, up to a max of 12km.
  • Ground clutter/wave height are now considered when tracking low level aircraft in operator screens.
  • Flying below 40-50m you can try sneak in under your opponent’s Radar.
  • CIWS fish can detect hostile aircraft at 5km
  • Torpedo fish can detect ships at 3.5km
  • Cruise Missile fish can detect ships at 6km
  • Gun fish can detect ships at 2km
  • All Needlefish can see ships and aircraft that are closer than 0.5km.

Aircraft Cam and Petrel Orders

For aircraft, if you click one on the holomap, you can now see an extra menu, clicking Camera will show a low-res version of the aircraft flight camera.

If you click a Petrel, you will be able to click the Airlift button to order it to pickup the nearest friendly ground unit within 700m.

If the petrel is carrying cargo already, you will be able to click to deploy the unit at the petrel’s current location.

Barge Limits

  • Barge islands now serve as control nodes for your barges, each island lets you control two extra barges (plus a base two to start with)
  • Barge camera (HUD) video streams can be jammed by enemy carriers. If your barge gets very close (<200m) to a hostile carrier, you will get increasingly more signal degredation until your video drops out.

For example:

If your team has 2 carriers, and you control 2 barge islands, you will be able to build a maximum of 1 + 2 + 4 = 7 barges.

If your team has 1 carrier, and one barge island, you’ll be able to build no more than 1 + 1 + 2 = 4 total barges.

If you lose an island or carrier, your barges won’t go away, you just won’t be able to build more than the cap for what you have.

Strategic Bombing

Rev 1.3 adds core support for you to bomb your enemy supply centres, for you to temporarily disrupt their production of new units and weapons. This is disabled by default but is enabled by adding a revolution settings mod at the same time.
