The very first mod I made for CC2 was the Dark Seals mod to remove the headlights from seals. I figured at the time there would be a little Mr Hodges running around the islands shouting “put that light out”. Headlights are basically “shoot me” beacons.

survival makes sense
There is no reason at all for any military asset in an operational war zone to have lights on during night time, especially not lights that are visible tens of kilometres away or strobe lights on aircraft.
The “Hard mode” mod will remove all sources of light from barges, needlefish, swordfish and air and ground units. If you decide you want to turn on your carrier lights that is your funeral.
see it, shoot it
I can’t stop turrets and ground units deciding to fire at you when you fly over, so you WILL be able to eventually find everything that can harm you. That said, armed forces have had night vision for a very long time. So why can’t we?
Well, the TV and IR missile seekers already can _see_ targets that have not been spotted in a small arc ahead. With the increased difficulty of finding night time units in mind we should get some more tools to help make hard mode fun to play, so I plan to introduce a variation of the TV/IR seeker marks as an option on any albatross equipped correctly for camera based search
My idea is to allow the air/land observation and actuated cameras to mimic a kind of optical motion detection, to highlight targets on land that are moving and paint/hint at them on the HUD.
