The Rev 1.6 Release Planning

One of the main differences between 1.5 and 1.6 is that 1.6 includes more of the features as standard (carrier VLS, HD screens, Helm HUD, 2x water speed units). In 1.5 these were provided by optionally adding a handful of other mods.

I am in two minds now. Do I continue with this forced change? Or do I update the companion mods instead to keep things optional?

Some of my 1.6 changes have been simplified by not having to “detect” the optional mods… thinking…

One big problem with 1.6 having different conflicts than 1.5 is that when these conflict rules change, steam doesn’t tell you. so you can end up with conflicting mods enabled, and there isn’t really any way to ensure that doesn’t happen.

So my choices are these:

  • Keep the original set of optional mods
  • Release 1.6 as a new distinct mod

The easiest thing for me is to make the 1.6 beta be the 1.6 release, and to put a note on the 1.5 steam page linking to 1.6 as the next version.
