CC2 Updates!

This last few days have been a bit of a whirlwind for CC2 fans. We’ve had a couple of really excellent large multi-team games and on top of that, to the elation of many we’ve seen a significant new set of updates to Carrier Command 2!.

Hot on the heels of 1.5.3 were 1.5.4 and 1.5.5 hotfixes for some control issues that cropped up after the VR fixes. Watching GR’s CC2 series with Cap, Kortana, Simba Grump and Damp were what really really got me into this game and the GR full-timers were really big fans of flying in VR. I have high hopes that the changes for VR in 1.5.3 will bring out more VR players.

Along with the VR fixes is one change that for me is BIG (have you seen the name of the site?)

We have also added the ability for dedicated servers to load save games, in order that servers can play custom scenarios or specific island configurations

This means it is now possible to do many quite big new things!

  • Host community PvP/PvE games with pre-agreed/balanced maps
    • Past tournaments used a specially selected map pool, to ensure that no one team had an unfair advantage due to island and blueprint placement. These would have to be hosted by a player on team 1.
  • Some random maps have some fantastic island features, or weather, It’s great to load up saved games as a challenge
  • We can now host custom edited maps on the dedicated servers

That last point is what I’m super excited about. In the past we’ve had to have ingenious hex editing tricks to get modified map setups, but now we can unlock editing the save map xml files to provide us with new starting values for inventory, money, blueprints and hostiles.

We have in the past used edited maps to aid some of the setup for our videos, or filming cinematics. But now the dedicated server change opens up using saved maps to more people for more fun or more action packed or longer or more unusual games.
