CC2 State of the Mods 2024

It’s that time of year again, where many of us take a break from exams, spend time with family, try new seasonal things, and perhaps some of us are lucky enough to have a little more spare time. So, to follow on from my post last year here is my 2024 “state of the mods” for Carrier Command 2.

A year on in CC2 mods.

This last year, personally I’ve learned A LOT. And I’ve seen some great new mods appear, as well as some old favourites coming back with a refresh. March 2024 saw a much welcome update to the game, fixing some gameplay and control input bugs and along with it came a bump in player numbers and new mods.

Environment

Luz’s Island Expansion v1.1 BETA

I was very pleased to see Luz update their island mod, this new incarnation brings HUGE islands to the game, no longer is the 160mm gun king over CIWS turrets, you wont get the carrier within range of everything on the island with this.

The mod is still experimental so there are some quirks, some of the islands may not appear at all, probably because this is at the very edge of what it is possible to get the terrain system to do, but it is a must-see mod if you want to organise some PvP ground action.

3D Visuals

FC Navy: Fifth Generation Jet (v1.1)

One of the hardest of all things to do well in CC2 modding is 3D models. FC Navy’s 5th Gen Jet mod brings a full suite of new models for aircraft. Checkout FelineCat’s other mods too!

As well as 3D model changes the aircraft gain a few new features and attachment points.

Interface and Control

Higher Resolution

Nexus314 noticed that some of the bridge screens operated at a lower resolution than the others. Doubling the amount of detail on the RADAR and navigation screens opens the door for extra information to keep you in the fight

As with so many of the mods now, this one is best combined with UI enhancer.

Tactical Operations Centre

This is a recent one of mine. Born after I figured out how to use the arcade cabinet model. Ideal for larger crews when 3 bridge control stations isn’t enough.

Gameplay and Sim

Revolution 1.3

This is the 3rd update to Revolution this year and I’m pleased with what we have.

Fog of war, HUD enhancements, anti-cheese measures, low level flying stealth, carrier names, enhanced map tooltips and more.

I kind of went to town a bit this year with my Revolution mod, so I have to include it. I have done a lot of editing and testing but it would have got nowhere at all without the foundation of UI Enhancer and would not be fun or useful without the feedback, testing and ideas of the CC2 community including my fellow GRNO shipmates.

AI

It’s 2024 and we can’t really avoid talking about AI (heh)

AI:Skynet

I recently threw together an “AI” mod called Skynet, where the red island defenders do a little more than simply wait for you to shoot at them. The team-0 combat units now seek you out and make your life hell/short.
