Map Editing Madness

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been hacking away on my cc2me project. I can now place all surface units on the map and adjust the sizes, types and teams of islands.

While doing this I had to work out how to fit the different weapons and utility modules to each kind of unit in the game. These are called “attachments” and are of four broad types, turrets (30mm, 100mm, CIWS), utilities (smoke, flares) and ship (160mm, cruise missile, torpedo) and hardpoint (AA missiles, 20mm gun) with a few others like the various radars that don’t neatly fit.

While working out how to populate the save file with units with the correct weapons, fuel and ammunition I found I could attach many of the turrets and utilities to more than the default units. For instance, I can place the carrier camera on a needlefish or ground unit IR turret, rocket pods or 40mm gun on a Swordfish. They function and are mostly effective special configurations that you can only create using a mod or by editing the save.xml files.
